1960 Bowden Spacelander Bombard Ind., Grand Haven, Michigan

English auto designer Benjamin Bowden conceived the Spacelander in

aluminum, designed to represent “The Bicycle of the Future.” While there

was a high level of public interest, manufacturers were unwilling to invest.

In the 1950s, Bowden brought his design to Michigan and began production

in fiberglass. With limited production, only 522 were produced. It was one

of the most expensive bikes on the market.
